The Android x86 team has delivered a version adapted to computers and tablets with Intel or AMD the latest version of Google's operating system processors.

Need a boost for a tablet or a netbook equipped with a x86 processor? Fans can look to the latest system image produced by the team of Android x86 which, as its name suggests, working on a port of the mobile operating system from Google towards machines with Intel or AMD chips signed . It has delivered the first version "stable" of a new system image based on Android 4.4 KitKat, which also benefits from the integration as welcome news filters ffmpeg for decoding and playback of high definition videos among the installed applications.

Dubbed android-x86-4.4-r1.iso and available for download, about 343 MB image allows to install Android on an x86 machine, as you would with a Linux distribution. So suffice it to burn the image to a CD or use it to create an installation USB key. The system also works as a Live CD (run without installation directly from the storage media). We can also try without much difficulty through a virtual machine via a tool like VirtualBox.

The team in charge of the project says that its system is based on Linux kernel version 3.10.52. It also promises support for Open GL ES for Intel and AMD graphics controllers, and a wide range of drivers ensuring the proper management of WiFi, audio, Bluetooth, Ethernet, the webcam and touch screens on the most current market chipsets. Initial user feedback confirms the efficiency of the port, but also emphasize different bugs and hardware incompatibilities. It is also noteworthy that this porting Android does not download and install any applications from Google Play store.
